Jenny Zander is a body artist, photographer, and filmmaker based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Her work showcases mixed media on skin: art with a heartbeat. She focuses on the resiliency of the LGBTQ+ community and women through a form of storytelling that reflects many identities and movements.
In 2015, Jenny began her career in body art and documentation. She works closely with Oyate Hotanin, Indigenous Peoples Task Force, and Pangea World Theater. In 2020, she co-created the award-winning documentary Salt River Water Walk which screened across the U.S. and Canada.
Jenny is the co-founder and artistic director of The Red Light House; a queer collective providing versatile and intimate arts experiences throughout the Twin Cities. As an exhibiting artist, Jenny’s work has been shown throughout Minnesota, Michigan, California, and New York. Her body art and photography was published in 2023 by Buddy’s Bench Press in a 3 year long book project titled Shapeshifters: Bodies Like Water, honoring the connections between the body, land, and queer wisdom. The book is integrated into Anthropology of Gender courses at Tulane University in New Orleans and used as a facilitation tool in support groups for trans inmates at the Riker’s Island Correctional Facility.
