Grant awarded to RLH for initiative "Arists Respond: Weathering Together", a program for artists who live or work in North Minneapolis to create work inspired by climate change
In Fall 2025, The Red Light House presented our “Weathering Together Fashion Show", a wearable art and performance showcase centering the effects industrialization has on North Minneapolis and how resilience sprouts out of the neighborhoods that are most impacted. The runway told stories of the Mississippi River, the ways in which rivers transcend borders, how our bodies are restricted by our environments and transformed by community. The evening was filled with live music, poetry and storytelling through fashion.
This work was part of Springboard for the Arts new initiative “Artists Respond: Weathering Together”, a program for artists who live or work in North Minneapolis. We chose to put together a fashion show because clothing tells stories. Clothing is in conversation with society and what is happening in the world. Clothing represents our realities and carries messages. What we choose to say to ourselves and the world around us.
We partnered with Oyate Hotanin, Change Narrative and the Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board for this showcase and invited the public to join us for an evening of live music, spoken word, and a unique runway curated by The Red Light House Collective. With the North Mississippi Regional Park as the backdrop, this outdoor fashion show explored the meaning of home through our connection to air and water. What infrastructure and borders are in place to sever these connections? How can the community respond and change in the face of environmental injustice? What signs of resilience can be seen in our day to day?
